If I worked on a custom piece for you and if you ordered anything through the website, please leave a little something...
ZheKa, The piece I commissioned from you arrived today. It is beautiful! I am happy to use pictures of it for the cover of my book Bagastana. It was a pleasure to work with you. Take care! - Kate
Mid Summer Apple Dream continues to bring a sense of tranquility into our home with the serene figure dreaming surrounded by the swirling lines of the tree and the floating apples. The three dimensional aspect of the work bri to life. Thanks Zheka for making truly original art.
Zheka, I just read the article about you in Woodcarving Illustrated and looked at your website. Your work is incredible. I carve but wish I could evoke the emotions your work does. I will be checking periodically to see any new work. Thanks for creating such beautiful art.George
Thank you George. Glad you enjoyed the site. Keep checking, I add new stuff at least once a month.
ZhekaSimilar to George, I read the article in W.I. and was stunned by your work. I am new to carving, but from a technical aspect, your work is staggering. The stories that each work tells is amazing and I particularly like - and resonate with - your consistent playing with the metaphors of light and dark. I was recently injured at work and suffered a severed spinal cord and 3rd degree burns over 40% of my body. To look at several of your works so clearly and poignantly captures my life over the past year. It has brought a great deal of life and imagery to the thoughts and struggles that rage in my head and spirit. As a fellow carver and artist it has also influenced and impacted my understanding of the "limits" of the carving medium. I want to extend to you the warmest thank you for helping me to clearly "see" my journey and for giving me the beginnings of a language for hopefully expressing that journey in my work. I wish you well on your continued journey...RD
Thank you RD, my best wishes to you also on your journey; I do believe in a good Sail and once it's up--the wind would come.If my work provides even the smallest amount of hope, support and motivation--I am honored. zheka
Just a comment on " A Small Strand of Light" which I bought from Zheka. This piece appealed to me as it conveyed the feeling of trying to maintain a positive outlook on life when the world at times may seem to turn its back on you but in spite of the indiferrence you keep hold of that small strand of light. Zheka's work is timeless.
thanks Phil, I do agree that this carving has this feel of unrelenting optimism even among doom and gloom. Sometimes a strand of light is all it takes to flourish.
Also bought "I Will Rise" which helped me to quit smoking as I looked at the figure struggling everyday to rise above that which would pull him down. Zheka's work is therapeutic to anyone willing to take the time to really look closely and see what is going on in his symbolic world of ideas and stories filled with all the nuance of human emotion.
I saw CALM when you were at Ebens Art Alliance. I struggled btw that which I did not feel and the CAGED FLIES HIGHEST. Bought CALM and have gotten to a better place in my spirit. However CAGED is a human(mine)condition but filled with Hope. It is till haunting me. Some day...I desire to purchase it also. I love your mind. Diana
Thank you Diana, yes I do remember you, I am just very excited and flattered that somebody else enjoys my ideas as much as I do myself :-)
I purchased CALM. And at that time it was a brave feeling. But today in reviewing your work again I see the struggle that all go through in your BEAUTY and the BEAST series. You have expresed in the work here that which I feel represents the TRUTH of the human condition. I am also struck by your piece, A MOMENT of BEAUTY. The stance of the woman and curve of the calla lily are music to my eyes:-)
yes, the stance and the curve make it a very interesting piece, even though it is predominantly dark, theres simple kindness just in theat pose. I am glad that you can appreciate this as much as i do.
I have Beauty and the Beast, which certainly suits my personality. I have also purchased an additional piece for my young granddaughter who is very intrigued with your work. However, it is difficult to decide on a piece as they all are truly amazing! Your talent is extraordinary, and it is a pleasure to check your website periodically to see what you have new.
April, you are too nice, for a lady who relates to "beauty and the Beast" so well, hahahahaha, well you know what i mean...
And...the new piece IS finished--has a shiny new hanging bracket on it!
From one "not normal" person to another--I love my zombie head and my Cheshire cat from Bizarro world that I recently purchased. It's a good thing that I bought them before somebody else did as I am sure they will sell quickly at Hartslog. I have decided to put them in each of my front windows and keep them there waaaay past Halloween--probably all year round according to the "not normal" person's etiquette! Thank you!
I was impressed with your birdhouses at PCCA today. I looked the the rest of your work here and am in awe of your talents! I would like to discuss the possibility of a message in the bottle piece.
